Midpoint in Sydney Opera House’s Decade of Renewal
CHALLANGE
Create a visual brand identity to introduce the Deloitte Access Economics’ report on The Sydney Opera House. In addition to conveying the message, the creative result should embody the following themes linked to the project: Renewal, re-evaluation and proactivity.
OUTCOME
The ‘Decade of Renewal’ theme inspired a central ‘X’ hero motif, symbolising the number 10, while specifically designed number visuals mirroring Sydney Opera House’s architecture highlighted figures in the report. These motifs were integrated into infographics, setting the tone for all materials associated with the report’s presentation.

It's all in the styling
The Sydney Opera House is celebrated for its distinctive architectural design, notably featuring
a roof resembling sails or shells, creating an iconic silhouette on the Sydney skyline. Consequently, developing a number lettering set inspired by the building’s materials and design elements felt
fitting and apt.

It's a numbers game
The report extensively highlighted numerical data. The design seamlessly integrated diverse colours, textures, and shapes, all while maintaining a central theme inspired by the distinctive ‘sail’ motif. Dark and light backgrounds were used alongside lettering design to create contrast, allowing the elements to stand out vividly on the page.
Kicking off the 4oth anniversary through animation
Five years earlier, in the lead-up to the 40th anniversary in 2013, the Opera House initiated a 'Decade of Renewal' to sustain its legacy for future generations through capital projects. Deloitte was enlisted to evaluate its cultural, social, digital, and economic impact on Australia, culminating in the 2013 report and video animation 'How do you value an icon?'
